In an uncertain and busy world, both children and parents need a place to go where they can learn to develop harmony and methods for calming the mind and strengthening the family. These classes offer a simple introduction to Buddha’s teachings by emphasizing kindness, respect for others, and keeping a happy heart. In each class there is a short talk, gentle meditation, and an arts and crafts activity related to a Buddhist theme.

How do you start a meditation practice? In this class, we will talk about the basics of getting started, some tricks to make it easier, and how to meditate at any time.
Sept 30 Contemplation & Single-Pointed Concentration
Learn how to develop particular positive feelings and thoughts and practice holding them in your heart so that they become stronger and more present in your daily life.
Oct 7 The Seven Limbs
Seven special mental actions can be incorporated into our meditation practice to give our minds extra strength and power – and help us move more swiftly on our spiritual path
Oct 14 Receiving Blessings
Blessings from the Buddhas help us experience special realizations and insights – but we have to be open to them.

Concentration creates the pathway to peace and wisdom. We need it if we want to make progress.
Nov 4 – Mindfulness & Alertness
This class will explore two aspects of concentration that can help us see our mind honestly and train it more effectively.
Nov 11 Overcoming Distraction Through Kindness (Moral Discipline)
By taking mindfulness and alertness into our daily life, we will become kinder, more gentle, and more aware of the effects of our actions, speech, and even our thoughts on those around us.
